Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

The NHAEMT is proud of the work we do and our heritage. The New Hampshire Association of EMTs was founded in 1975 and incorporated as a “not-for-profit” in May, 1979. Today, it is the state’s oldest organization exclusively dedicated to representing the interests of ALL Emergency Medical Services personnel through advocacy, educational programs, professional development, and research.

How does NHAEMT keep in touch with members?

Movement into the electronic age of communications now enhances the Association's ability to provide timely information to the membership, making it an even more viable and valuable EMS organization for the providers of New Hampshire Emergency Medical Services. As well as a current web site, the Association now provides an electronic mail list service through the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. Looking for advice, want to find others with similar interests or just want to get your opinion out to the NH EMS community? Try the list server or contact one of the Board at http://www.nhaemt.org.

Does the NHAEMT really have a voice in EMS issues?

Members receive representation by mandatory legislative appointment on the NH EMS Medical Coordinating Board AND the Trauma Review Committee, as well invitations to represent the NHAEMT when other as hoc committees are formed by the NH Bureau of EMS for special projects (like TEMSIS, EMS Rules changes, etc.), or others with an interest in EMS. NHAEMT and our members often speak on behalf of EMS-related issues for both public and private entities. Our members also testify before New Hampshire’s State Legislative committees on numerous issues relating to health care and public safety. NHAEMT also is an active participant in national affairs through its affiliation with the NAEMT and has a seat on their national Affiliate Advisory Council. Finally, New Hampshire NHAEMT members sit on numerous other governmental boards, industry associations, and commissions throughout the state and the country.

Who runs the NHAEMT?

NHAEMT is operated by a Board of Directors that answers to and implements the wishes of the membership. The Board of Directors oversees the mission of the NHAEMT, and moves on all major decisions for the Association, either within the Executive Board (the fiscal/administrative business of the Association) or, MOST often, in conjunction with the entire membership, including educational ventures, and association policy. The Board is comprised of five Executive Committee members, and several additional members, including the Committee Chairs, liaisons to/from the NH Regional EMS Boards, a liaison from the NH Bureau of EMS, a liaison from the NH Paramedic Association, and other ad hoc members as may be needed from time to time.

How much does membership cost? What else do I get?

Annual individual membership rates are $20 in 2009. The Association offers a discounted rate for anyone joining both the NHAEMT and the NAEMT (National Association of EMT’s) simultaneously. Together, the fee of $45 represents a discount of $20 when joining both in the year 2009. EMT students qualify for a special one-year membership of $10.00 with proof of EMT student status. NHAEMT members receive news via our website and by regular e-mail updates on matters of interest to NH EMS professionals. We will forward your confirmed enrollment and payment to NAEMT.
